Diffraction optical element for safety lighting
Product/Service Description
Planar diffractive microoptical elements are becoming increasingly important for realizing compact and low cost optical systems. Typical elements have mulitlevel microrelief ("binary optics") or continuous microrelief, with features ranging from submicron to millimeter dimension and relief amplitudes of a few microns. Novel structures can be realized complementing and exceeding the possibilities of traditional lenses, prisms and mirrors.
The optical function of the DOE is modeled by computer. There are different methods to restitute this optical function physically (see figure). The first possibility is the holographic method, where the interference pattern of an object beam and a reference beam is recorded in a photosensitive material. With the aid of computer-generated holograms the reference or the object beam can be shaped in order to generate aspheric waves.
